Pocket Books, which has a bookstore on the west side of Lancaster city, has opened a second store downtown.
The new Pocket Books on Prince takes a spot at 23 N. Prince St. that was most recently occupied by Read Rose Books, a used bookstore that closed at the end of August.
Pocket Books on Prince is an independent bookstore that sells used books, new books and gift items. Owners Jessica Callahan, Austin Carter and Julie Ross opened the original Pocket Books in April 2022 at 903 Wheatland Ave.
The Pocket Books website describes it as “an eclectic feminist bookstore.”
Pocket Books purchased “the lion’s share” of Read Rose’s inventory for an undisclosed price and the new store on Prince Street will feature a selection of those books alongside books from the Wheatland location, which primarily sells new fiction books.
“We’re looking forward to offering downtown customers an eclectic selection of used books that reflect Pocket Books’ commitment to supporting women authors, queer and trans authors, and authors of color,” Callahan said in an email.
