Buffalo Public School District seeks more bus aides, offering open interviews on October 4, with on-the-spot job offers and pay ranging from $18.75 to $20.85/hour.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Public School District is looking to hire more school bus aides for their buses.
A Bus Aide assists the school bus driver and helps to ensure student safety, supervises loading and unloading of students off and on the bus, and supports students while riding the bus.
The district will be holding open interviews Saturday, October 4.
The interviews will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Waterfront Elementary School on Fourth Street. District officials said offers will be made on the spot.
The pay is $18.75 to $20.85 per hour
Applicants are required to bring photo identification along with three documents showing proof of Buffalo residency. Those applying will need to have lived in the City of Buffalo for at least 90 consecutive days prior to be considered for this position per Civil Service Rules.
Here’s a list of responsibilities a bus aide would have perform:
- Checks and accounts for all student passengers and maintains order on the school bus;
- Makes certain students are seated promptly after boarding the bus and remain seated until the bus reaches its destination;
- Seats and places students in order to control behavior;
- Assists students in wheelchairs and applies safety and restraining devices as needed;
- Assists students on and off the bus in order to prevent accidents or injury and to guide them to cross the street safely;
- Monitors student behavior on the bus and alerts the bus driver and/or transportation supervisor of problems that occur on the bus and at student stops;
- Maintains a daily log of problems encountered and actions taken;
- Delivers incident log and makes oral and/or written reports to the bus driver and supervisors at the conclusion of the work day;
- May be required to operate the bus radio in the case of emergency;
- May be required to administer first-aid;
- Attends job-training workshops, meetings and conferences scheduled by the school principals or transportation supervisor;
- Performs related duties as required.
