Who am I? Neil Joseph Stephen Fraser was born in Georgetown, Guyana—or British Guiana as tt was known as in 1955—on the 27th of March. He is the owner of Ariwa Sounds. Ariwa is one of the longest running black music companies, spanning four decades, with a catalogue of over 350 titles, and certainly one of the largest black-owned recording facilities in the world!
This is the chronological story of the journey of a reluctant artist, whose role within the music industry has changed from A&R, engineer, musician, producer, manager, tour coordinator, banker, psychologist and many more! A journey that took him from the tiny cottage of Charlestown—a working-class part of Georgetown, Guyana—to Australia, the Philippines, Japan and many more!!
This is also about youth empowerment. In an era of youth violence, this is a reminder of a time when teenage youth were more attracted to their common factors than their differences.

Famous for his work with everyone from Grace Jones to Lee “Scratch” Perry to Massive Attack, Mad professor plays a special Live AV in Dub show at the Chan Centre on October 5 as part of the Vancouver International Film Festival. Part of VIFF LIve, the Chan EXP co-presentaion will spotlight Mad Professor’s 1995 album No Protection, which featured dub remixes of Massive Attack’s sophomore album Protection. Also included will be remixes of song from Massive Attack’s Mezzanine, as well as visuals from Vancouver interdisciplinary artist Saghi Ehteshamzadeh. For tickets and more information, go here.
