When actors Anjli Mohindra and Sacha Dhawan first met 12 years ago, it was ostensibly to discuss a script that Sacha had written. “Sacha was late,” shares Anjli. “He apologised profusely as I rolled my eyes, and then proceeded to talk about the film for mere minutes before offering me a beer. During a quick call to my mum in the loo, she told me to run because he sounded dodgy. Spoiler: I didn’t run…”
The couple officially became engaged during a trip to Machu Picchu in 2024, but not before Anjli had discovered Sacha’s plans to propose when she overheard him on the phone during another holiday to Menorca. “After several hours of playing oblivious I burst,” she laughs. “I knew he was going to ask and panicked. Marriage is something we’d both discussed wanting for years, but I’d been both incredibly excited and also abjectly terrified by the prospect. So the fact we could both discuss the future and let it all land before any of our friends and family knew that I knew, was kind of perfect. Sacha then proposed ‘officially’ at Machu Picchu in Peru, and our family and friends praised the incredibly fortuitous timing of my uncharacteristic manicure!”
Inspired by their first holiday as a couple back in 2014, they settled on Italy for their wedding. So, when Sacha returned to Rome to film the Sky show The Iris Affair, they used the opportunity to start their search, turning to wedding planner Alice Bracciali of Unique Events to help them narrow down the perfect venue. “We were keen to find something unpretentious, playful and personal, and Alice’s wild card choice right at the end of several packed days of hunting was bang on,” recalls Anjli. “We never thought we’d get that ‘feeling’, but as soon as we arrived into Bagno Vignoni it hit us both and we fell about laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. Alice said she almost didn’t mention the village as it was so low-key, but we will be forever grateful that she did.”
The local council allowed the couple to host their Hindu ceremony at a little medieval pergola overlooking a lake nearby, which turned out to be one of the most magical moments of their day. Meanwhile, the Western evening ceremony was held at La Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta, a UNESCO heritage site.
