For the first time in Cyprus, households and businesses will soon be able to choose who supplies their electricity. Starting today, 17 companies, ranging from homegrown startups to established energy providers, are stepping into the island\u2019s brand-new competitive electricity market.<\/p>\n
Although the first commercial transactions will officially take place tomorrow, today\u2019s bidding rounds are considered crucial in shaping how much energy will be sold and at what wholesale price.<\/p>\n
Among the newcomers are companies focused on renewable energy, like Ioannou Alternative Energy Ltd, A. Kerasi Photovoltaics Ltd, and W2E1 Ltd, which specializes in waste-to-energy. Others, such as Petrolina Electric Ltd and Vassiliko Cement\u2019s Clean Energy Supply, represent established Cypriot industrial players branching into electricity.<\/p>\n
The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) will still remain in the market both as a producer and supplier, but the big shift is the arrival of private competition. Firms like Bioland Aggregator \u201cAphrodite\u201d Ltd and GG Green Energy Aggregator Ltd will serve as aggregators, pooling renewable producers under one umbrella.<\/p>\n
