It quickly became my favorite movie of the festival, and I\u2019ve been championing it ever since. I was shocked it wasn\u2019t immediately picked up for distribution, but its patience has paid off.<em> Bone Lake <\/em>has finally found a home and is arriving in theaters on October 3, where you absolutely must see it. This isn\u2019t just another horror film; it\u2019s a brilliant, sexy, and terrifying thrill ride that demands to be seen with an audience.<\/p>\n<p>I sat down with director <strong>Mercedes Bryce Morgan<\/strong> and the incredibly talented cast \u2013 <strong>Maddie Hasson, Marco Pigossi, Alex Roe<\/strong>, and <strong>Andra Nechita<\/strong> \u2013 to discuss what makes <em>Bone Lake<\/em> such a unique and terrifying cinematic experience. We talked about everything from the challenges of shooting an indie film in just 18 days to the brilliant on-set chemistry that brought their characters to life, and why a horror film about an Airbnb is so relatable to modern audiences.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bone Lake Is A Cinematic Experience Like No Other<\/h2>\n<p>Director <strong>Mercedes Bryce Morgan<\/strong> shared my excitement about the film\u2019s theatrical release. \u201cIt feels so cool because we wanted to have just the right people supporting it,\u201d she told me. At Fantastic Fest, the audience reactions were everything she\u2019d hoped for \u2013 the gasps, the shouts of \u201cWhy are you doing that?!\u201d \u2013 all confirming that the movie had found its people. \u201cThat\u2019s what I wanted,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cIt\u2019s the theater-going experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both the cast and director emphasized how crucial the communal experience is to the film. As <strong>Alex Roe<\/strong> noted, seeing it with a crowd is a \u201cdifferent movie.\u201d The collective energy of people reacting together to the film\u2019s wild and absurd moments creates an electric atmosphere. <strong>Marco Pigossi<\/strong> suggested it\u2019s the perfect first date movie. \u201cYou\u2019re just like, \u2018What would you do in that situation?\u2019 And boom, you got an answer.\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weaving In The Terror Of The Modern World<\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Bone Lake<\/em> taps into a very specific, modern fear: the vulnerability of staying in an Airbnb. It\u2019s a combination that works because, as <strong>Mercedes Bryce Morgan<\/strong> explained, sex and violence are closely linked in our psyche. The film leans into the absurdity and camp, creating a \u201cvery campy and silly and ridiculous\u201d tone while still grounding it in a character you feel for. Morgan wanted a cast that could handle this delicate balance. She praised her lead actors, <strong>Maddie Hasson<\/strong> and <strong>Marco Pigossi<\/strong>, for their ability to bring a grounded quality, and <strong>Alex Roe<\/strong> and <strong>Andra Nechita<\/strong> for their knack for \u201chaving this fun, sexy vibe, but then just kind of get really big with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cast also praised the director, noting her clear vision, even with a hectic shooting schedule of just 18 days. The fight choreography, which <strong>Andra Nechita<\/strong> had to meticulously rehearse, paid off in tense, climactic scenes. And so that just really means a lot.\u201d It\u2019s clear the film was a labor of love for everyone involved. <strong>Maddie Hasson<\/strong>, who can\u2019t swim, even took lessons for a \u201cwild\u201d water scene.
