If an ‘Irish Goodbye’ is a stealth exit, than an ‘Italian Goodbye’ is the opposite: You can’t quite seem to say arrivederci. <\/em>That’s how it’s going with Milan Fashion Week, anyway, because even though the circus is packing up for Paris, this season’s runways \u2014 full of designer reveals, celebrity jaw-drops, and several legit “it bag” contenders \u2014 will linger in our heads for a while. But change is good, and so is the spaghetti at the fashion cafeteria La Specialita, <\/em>where no fewer than six tables of models, stylists, and editors were pretending not to talk about each other last night. Here’s what they might have been saying… <\/p>\n

\u201cCan You Please Spell Gabbana?\u201d <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Try to imagine the text that Meryl Streep sent to Selena Gomez this week: \u201cSorry I have to skip your wedding. Gotta film Devil Wears Prada 2 at Dolce & Gabbana in Milan. Say hi to Taylor. That\u2019s all.\u201d If she\u2019s looking for an apology gift, maybe try sending the opening look. It\u2019s a set of embroidered crystal pajamas in almost, but not quite, cerulean. <\/p>\n

MM6 for IRL<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As the impish little sibling of Maison Martin Margiela, the contemporary MM6 label gets to live a little less in a lab of Big, Important Ideas and a little more on the street. The brand took its job literally this week, sending a stomp of models (like a dazzle of zebras but taller) down Via Alessandro Manzoni smack in the middle of rush hour. They wore we-mean-business trench coats and cardigans with the shoulders slashed off, revealing bathing suit tops in calypso swirls underneath. You can make a million \u201cinner self\u201d comments here, but if you\u2019ve been a girl who didn\u2019t have time to do laundry, you\u2019ve also worn this exact cashmere-and-pool combo while racing to a coffee meeting. MM6 is just normalizing the moment of \u201cwhatever girl, get it done.\u201d And yes, these looks got it done. At the end of the show, several models stuck around in the courtyard of the new MM6 boutique. They\u2019d pushed their Trekkie sunglasses up like headbands. Another hint that MM6 builds for their own world but lets us live in ours, too. <\/p>\n

The Vroom Vroom Room<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Are you normal, or did you spend your first waking hours watching Amelia Gray emerge from an all-white car garage in clothes created by Ferrari? The Italian auto icon began its fashion collection in 2022; now it commands a captive audience of style insiders, even on a rainy Saturday morning. The clothes themselves had quiet horsepower \u2014 a mulberry trench with \u201880s power sleeves on model Imaan Hammam was pretty great. There was a cargo denim jacket that seemed stained with petrol; a neat detail. But as Amelia etc. finished their catwalk finale, something sneaky happened: Vespa, the Italian scooter brand, dropped their own<\/em> clothing range! It\u2019s called the Al Vento (\u201cin the wind\u201d) collection, and it comes with worn leather moto jackets, fuzzy bombers, and jeans printed with dogs wearing ties. There is also a crystal-studded scooter helmet \u2014 a reminder, perhaps, that if you don\u2019t ride safely, you could land on your head and start seeing truly weird <\/em>stuff\u2026 like dogs wearing ties. <\/p>\n

\u201cI Only Have One Photo in My Hands\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Runway models today were born around 2003 \u2014 the same year that Tyra Banks launched the scary-cringe glory known as America\u2019s Next Top Model. <\/em>Perhaps that\u2019s why this new crop of catwalkers arrives with a little extra oomph <\/em>in their long, symmetrical steps. Canadian stunner Awar Odhiang navigated Versace\u2019s super-tight staircases in a tight bubble-hem skirt with plenty of attitude and seemingly no stress. At Blumarine, American girl Colin Jones <\/u>went topless save for a giant, 15-pound butterfly necklace, and still managed to keep a smize <\/em>on her face navigating nudity and spike heels on rain-splashed catwalk. And Chinese model Canlan Wang handled a double-layer maxi dress at Cavalli without ever looking down at the slick metallic floor. This is tedious, hard, freak-out prone work, and it requires as much focus and coordination as many \u201creal\u201d sports. And these girls are playing to win. <\/p>\n

Stella Jean\u2019s Arm Party<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Once upon a time, let\u2019s say 2012, it was all about \u201cthe arm party.\u201d Influencers like Leandra Medine and designers like Nicolas Ghesqui\u00e8re (then at Balenciaga) and Giambattista Valli stacked bangle bracelets all the way to the elbows the way a toddler stacks those jelly rings all over the living room floor. Designer Stella Novarino of Stella Jean said, \u201cyeah, bet,\u201d and made a white sleeveless maxi dress, then wound semiprecious stones up the entire arm of her model. Bonus: Hauling 12 lbs. of rose quartz to a party could do wonders for the biceps. Just be sure to swap arms every time you wear the look to keep from going lopsided (and getting yelled at by your pilates instructor). <\/p>\n

Casting the front row at a fashion show can be even more crucial than casting the models. (Remember Beyonc\u00e9 at Luar last year?) Enter influencer Lily Chee, 22, who brought her 3.5 million social media followers along to the Tod\u2019s show, where the New York native joined established front row bombshells like Naomi Watts (56), Michelle Monaghan (49), and the legendary supermodel Iman (70). Let\u2019s see if this will help the brand\u2019s signature (and pretty luscious) loafers edge out the boat-shoe trend among The Youth next year. <\/p>\n

The best luxury labels are the ones in on the joke. The \u201cquiet luxury\u201d leaders at Loro Piana just proved it by tying five of their dreamy sweaters around the shoulders of one model. (We\u2019ll call the look \u201cExtreme Connecticut Mom.\u201d) The brand also tied their new leather-and-gold station necklaces into a knot-like pendant, because if you\u2019re going to get your jewelry tangled anyway, at least make it look like art. As for the tiny llama bag charms debuting in Spring 2026, look, it\u2019s about time these teeny leather goats<\/u><\/a> got a friend.<\/p>\n

Newsies<\/em><\/strong>: Fashion Edition<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Is news the ultimate luxury item? Well, newspapers, maybe. The idea in New York, where Brandon Maxwell and Lafayette 148 styled their 2026 handbags with newspapers tucked into the tops. In London, JW Anderson tucked a leather newsprint roll into the crook of his model\u2019s arm. Yesterday, model Ashley Graham posed at the Stuart Weitzman presentation with the Milanese daily La Corriere della Serra. <\/em>(The all-American bombshell was pictured wearing the brand\u2019s new heels on page 2.) This weekend, Bottega Veneta had its own gazette, which was cut and braided just like the brand\u2019s signature woven pelle<\/em>. In the fashion world, at least, print isn\u2019t just alive \u2014 it\u2019s coveted. (Duh<\/u><\/a>.) <\/p>\n

Emporio Armani\u2019s Spring 2026 show was based on the feeling of getting home from vacation. You\u2019re well-rested but a little undone, and you end up wearing a tankini top with your favorite pair of work trousers, because it\u2019s cute and anyway, you\u2019ve got tan lines to show off. The effect was breezy and sweet until the finale, when instead of Mr. Armani\u2019s usual bow, there was a blank space to honor his memory. Suddenly, it became clear why the models wore sunglasses during their bows. Some of them had been crying. Still, they all smiled. The audience, too. <\/p>\n

Take Your Outfit to Work Day<\/strong> <\/h2>\n

We talk (and talk, and talk) about the benefits of women designing clothes for women. What rarely gets mentioned is that every catwalk season, we get to see what these female creative directors wear to work. The big reveal comes in the form of a runway bow, when the designer emerges from the wings and presto: <\/em>a working woman\u2019s uniform reveals itself, and often that uniform is magic. It happened at The Attico, where co-designers Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini chose a giant Batman tee (Gilda) and a slouchy black shirt dress (Giorgia) to receive their applause. The looks were a stark departure from the brand\u2019s peek-a-boo style of sex appeal. (Lots of undies believing they\u2019re skirts the way Pinnochio believes he\u2019s a real boy, you know?) But Gilda and Giorgia looked cool, <\/em>and offered another option for women coming into their world. Miuccia Prada was more on-brand for her runway bow, choosing a simple white shirt-dress under a bejeweled orange scarf. Her look became a \u201cwait, I<\/em> can do that!\u201d moment for fans who probably can\u2019t buy the clothes, but can definitely tie a strategic shawl. Instagram and Threads lit up with chatter for hours afer the reveal. And when Louise Trotter made a quick dash onstage at Bottega Veneta this weekend, she did it in a slouchy blue sweater with wide-leg wool slacks and a white-on-white pair of Orbit Flash sneakers<\/u><\/a>. As of this writing, the kicks are already sold out in three sizes. <\/p>\n
